WBA Meeting Minutes

November 15th, 2007

The November meeting of 2007 was called to order at 7:10PM by President David Kanally at the Midway Point Restaurant.  14 Members attending.  We moved directly into reports:

Membership Report – Mark Webster:  Nothing to report.

Vice President's Report - Bob Van Guilder: As Bob was absent, David Kanally reported at this point in the meeting that the officer’s slate had changed with Mike Gomes volunteering for the membership position.  David went on to report that Bob Van Guilder, as WBA President, had indicated that he would have a Board of Advisors and that he would approach Dave Parker in participating as an Advisor with the focus of driving more involvement in the WBA from members outside the immediate DFW area. The Advisory Board is not defined in the WBA by-laws and will function informally to advise the club.  There is also discussion with Bill Reardon about doing a Lake Granbury event in 2008.

Treasurer's Report - Phil Wolff: Treasury account balance is $2,632.44.  We will be renewing our annual General Liability Insurance for $944.19.  When that is paid the balance will be $1,688.25.  We want to maintain a minimum balance of $1,500.00 in our account.  A reminder was given to think about donating any good condition items that might be acceptable for ebay sales to generate additional funds.   Recently, 40 back issues of Classic Boating were donated by Stan Lehnhardt and David Kanally has been putting them out on ebay for auction.

Secretary's Report – Richard Haug: Nothing to report. Previous meeting minutes submitted for approval.

Project Reports – Robin McGeorge:

November Meeting Presentation: Seb Borrllo and What’s happening at the Antique Boat Museum in Clayton, NY.

Seb started his presentation on the Antique Boat Museum with some slides on their “Festival of Oar and Sail”.  Photos were shown of skiffs, a Birch bark canoe and several rowing skiffs built by families for the festival.  Other Museum projects shown were a 1948 Century Resorter, a new storage building/facility, a 1958 Garform fiberglass boat, a new boat house roughly 175ft long for the La Duchesse Houseboat donated to the museum by the McNally Foundation, and the  rowing skiff scantlings project to catalog the lines of roughly 60 rowing skiffs in the ABM collection.  Seb moved on to the annual ABM Boat Show usually held the 1st weekend in August.  They held ceremonies this year for the commemorative Wooden Boat Stamps that were issued by the U.S. Postal Service.  Seb then gave us an update on his Lyman project to repair/replace the transome and then provided a photo tour of the St. Lawrence area with its various lighthouses, homes and castles.  Ask Seb sometime for more information on the Antique Boat Museum or the Clayon/St. Lawrence area.

Upcoming Meeting Programs:  Seb Borrello will be updating us on the all the activities this past season at the Antique and Classic Boat Museum in Clayton, NY.

Other New Business:

Mark Webster has a savings tip the next time you stop in O’Reilly’s Auto Parts.  Check out the coupon rack for special deals.  Mark basically recouped the cost of an oil purchase with a coupon from the rack.

Seb Borrello relayed a suggestion or offer from Bob Kubacek for the option of building a Clubhouse out the Lucas shops for meetings.

With no further new business the meeting was then adjourned at 8:35PM.
