WBA Meeting Minutes
August 16th, 2007
The August meeting of 2007 was called to order at 7:00PM by President David Kanally at the Midway Point Restaurant. We moved immediately into reports:
Treasurer's Report - Phil Wolff: Treasury account balance is $3,431.94 which includes the sponsorship funds provided by the Southwest Chapter of the ACBS.
Membership Report – Mark Webster: No new members. In attendance today is a former WBA member from the 1990’s who moved to New York, Shawn Herrin. Shawn was welcomed by the members.
Secretary's Report – Richard Haug: Nothing to report.
Vice President's Report - Bob Van Guilder: Discussion on Ride ‘N Show will occur later in the meeting. Bob was recently contacted via e-mail regarding a Wedding on Granbury Lake for sometime in April 2008. The inquiry was whether or not we would be interested in transporting the wedding party across the lake between the ceremony and the reception facility which has dock space. Additional details are expected regarding liability and the size of the wedding party. It will be up to individual members as to whether or not they will help out here.
Project Reports – Robin McGeorge:
· Robin McGeorge has almost finished with work on Black Beauty. The last piece of hardware has been installed except for rub rails. The plan will be to list it on ebay as a 22.5 ft boat with Chevy V8.
· Robin has also been working on his Speedliner. The carbs need to be rebuilt and he needs to fire the engine up.
· Jerry Foltyn’s Mercury project continues to coming along. His windshield is on the boat now.
· Mark Webster will be bringing his XK22 back as it is almost finished.
· Troy Marshal has his 1954 Sportsman in the shop to fix it up and sell it. The engine is about to be pulled and cosmetic work started. His other project boat, a 16ft. 1942 Chris Craft Custom, is not going well as the purchase has been put hold due to paperwork issues.
· Bob Adair has recently acquired a 14ft 1976 Chrysler complete with trailer and engine to be restored. Hull work will be started soon and it is a boat that he worked on at Chrysler.
· Phil Wolf continues to work on his ’58 Century Coronado. The boat has been flipped over and is back at Phil’s house. The 331 Cadillac engine is still out and continues to have issues.
· David Kanally’s sailboat hull is done and watertight. The work on the Mast has also been completed and the hardware re-installed. The keel needs to be re-installed. Lake levels at Grapevine will need to improve for a ramp to become available to complete this task.
Please see Robin McGeorge to discuss your potential project and scheduling shop time. There may be shop space available in the coming months.
New Business/Updates/Events:
Report on National Marina Day, August 11th at Joe Poole Lake: This was the 5th annual appearance of the WBA at Joe Poole Lake for Marina Day with 6-7 boats. Launching started at 8am. It was a very hot day with most boats being pulled at 2pm which appears to be a good time as other activities ramp up on the Lake. Once again the food and beverage was enjoyed by the attendees and the appropriate praise was given to Mildred and her crew at Lynne Creek Marina for another great event.
Upcoming Events:
Ride ‘n Show – Aug. 25th & 26th:
Classic on the Lake event scheduled for September 22nd at Pier 121 with the Classic Car Club. The Classic Car Club has launched a broad invitation to other car clubs in the area including the Rolls Royce, Cadillac and LaSalle clubs.
State Fair Event: Scheduled for October 8th. The Classic Chassis Car Club prefers to be there on Sunday the 7th and not on a week day. They have sent out to their membership an offer to return on Monday if they would like and that we would welcome them in the Coral.
Upcoming Meeting Programs: Bob Adair and Lewis White will tag team present at the September 20th meeting on Chrysler Boats.
August Meeting Presentation:
David Kanally covered his recent trip to Mystic, CT to attend the ACBS and Marque meeting last April. David had a particular interest as he represented the newly formed Cowell Boat works Marque. In 1955 there approximately 800 boat builders in North America of which only 25 have Marque Clubs today. There is a drive within the ACBS this year to tap into the Marque Club membership as the overlap is approximately 20%. David also covered his recent activities in building a presence for the Cowell Marque and has established an official affiliation with the Erie Maritime Museum where activities courtesy of David are underway to build an archive and put a Cowell boat on display at the museum. Catch up with David for more details.
The meeting was then brought to a close at 8:47PM.
