WBA Holiday Party a Huge Hit!

About 30 WBA members, boatresses and other fascinating people (see pictures above!) attended the annual Holiday Party at the lakeside home of WBA President Bob and Mildred Van Guilder in The Colony on Saturday evening, December 6. Festive attire, good food and lots of laughter ruled the night, as members shared holiday cheer and caught up on the latest news and plans for the holidays. Updates from the WBA Shop in Lucas

Troy Marshall's 1948 Hacker Triple

Clockwise from above: Troy's Hacker is now upright, with the bottom two side planks and additional inside bracing serving to hold the hull's shape while work progresses on deck frames and transom. Robin McGeorge and Troy Marshall engage in the very fussy work of creating the precise curve of the transom based on very sketchy forensic evidence of deteriorated original pieces. Chris Christian looks on as Troy uses a rasp to form the end of a frame to fit the curve of the transom. Newly created deck frames show the thoroughness and precision that Robin and Troy have employed from the beginning of this ambitious restoration. When they're finished there will be only a few original pieces remaining in the boat. Cross bracing of the engine compartment opening in the deck can be seen in the foreground. The Lucas shop is as busy as it's ever been, with crews working at least three days a week.

Phil Wolff's Century Sea Maid

Phil Wolff and Richard Colvin continue to make progress on the bottom frames of Phil's Sea Maid. Any restoration of this nature requires some judgment calls and decision making regarding which pieces to restore and save and which pieces to replace. Careful checking for fair lines and frames will save fitting nightmares later.

Ladies' Night Best Attended WBA Meeting in Recent Memory!

Thirty-five people swarmed Midway Point for the special November "Ladies' Night" meeting on November 20. The group had dinner at a large U-shaped table in the meeting room, followed by an informative and enjoyable presentation by Seb Borrello on the Antique Boat Museum in Clayton, NY. The group bade Bev Peterson farewell as she's made a move to the Houston area to be close to family. We hope to see Bev every now and then when she visits Dallas.

With a turnout like this, we'll have to do a Ladies' Night again sometime soon!

Please take a look in the shed or garage for the leftover parts or other saleable items you can donate to the club. Bring them to any WBA meeting, or contact David Kanally at david@historywithheart.com for pickup.
