Complete with a Project Update from Robin's Nest!

November, 2025

Cruisin' Lewisville Lake Moved to November 15!

The Cruisin' Lewisville Lake car and boat show originally slated for October 11 at Pier 121 has be rescheduled for November 15, 2025. The online registration form has been updated to reflect the new date. If you previously registered for the October 11 date, please complete a new registration form for the November 15 date to confirm your particitpation. There is no registration fee.

If you remember the weekend of the 11th, you'll agree that organizer Katina Real made the right decision to postpone the show. That day was blessed (plagued?) by wind and rain that would have deterred the crowds and kept many participants from bringing their cars (we boat people probably would have shown up anyway. What, like we're afraid of getting our boats wet?)

In any case, let's make a special effort to show up for the November 15th show. We love this annual event, and appreciate the Reals for putting it together. This might be the last chance of the season to get your boat out and make a run before you have to winterize. Hope to see you at Pier 121 on the 15th!

Busy Denison Fall Fest Features Yellow Jackets!

Ten WBA member-owned Yellow Jacket boats were on prominent display at Denison's annual Fall Festival on October 4th. Owners from as far away as Conroe, TX and Liberty, MO towed their boats to the event, and joined Texoma and Dallas locals who displayed their boats. Thanks to Dennis Cheatham and Barney Gulley for organizing the Yellow Jacket Display.

Tens of thousands of area residents visited the Festival, which transformed several blocks of Denison's Main Street into a pedestrian fair, complete with booths representing area businesses, artists, collectors and craftsmen. Food trucks offered a tempting variety of goodies.

You can see the video of the Festival here.

WBA Enjoys Well-Attended Heartland Classics Grand Lake Show!

What a great turnout the WBA had at the Heartland Classics Grand Lake show the weekend of October 2-5. Here, the WBA group poses proudly with their awards following the show. Video here.

The Grand Lake show had an impressive 43 boats in attendance in both land and in-the-water displays. The event featured runs to various lakeside venues for group meals and lots of conversation!

Weather and Ambiance Ideal for Lake LBJ Gathering!

(Above) The LBJ show has a longstanding tradition of a Saturday night dinner at River City Grill in Marble Falls. This year's show was bathed in sunshine and pleasant temperatures. The Saturday show at the Horseshoe Bay Marina was well attended, and the public showed a keen interest in the nice variety of boats on display.

Lisa and Lindy Robinson have done a good job of keeping the LBJ tradition going. Given the quality of the venue, the variety of outings, and the fabulous people who attend, you should put this event in your plans for next year.

Port Aransas Show Weathers Storm, Celebrates Craftsmanship!

The Port Aransas Wooden Boat Festival, October 24-26, 2025, faced a weather challenge on Saturday morning, but the organizers scrambled to respond and had the show back open by noon. Photos ©David Malcolm

The show featured owner-built boats of various descriptions, including this family-built rowboat, which was launched for the first time at the show. Thanks to WBA member Richard Edgecomb for showing us this event.

WBA Views October Event Video Recap at Monthly Meeting

The October 16th meeting of the WBA was held on Zoom and at Two Guys from Italy in Dallas. The meeting minutes have been emailed to members.

The club's routine business, reports and review of upcoming events included a request by Phil Wolff for nominees for the recently established Anchor of Excellence Award, as well as a discussion of the Decmber 3 Christmas Party to be held at Maggiano's at North Park.

The program was provided by David Kanally, who shared three videos recapping the events of October. Beginning with the Denison Fall Festival and its display of ten WBA-member Yellow Jackets, the presentation continued with a video shot by David Sheets at the Heartland Classics Grand Lake Show, and a third video of the Lake LBJ show. All three videos are on the WBA website.

Project Updates from the Robin McGeorge Boat Shop!

(Above) Gordon Spriggs sands the deck of his Glen-L barrel back with 1500 wet-or-dry, which will be followed by buffing. Caulking seams is next. Now that cooler weather is here, the black Sikaflex caulk should lie flat in the seams.

(Above) Alan Oppenheimer sands the lettering on the throttle controller for the Yellow Jacket that he and Pat Vinson are restoring.

(Above) Chris and Mark McKeehan's 1959 Chris-Craft Continental is very near the end of its upholstery phase.

(Above) Chris and Mark McKeehan welcome Lisa and Lindy Robinson to the shop. The Robinsons, who lead the SW Chapter of ACBS, stopped by on October 11 to check out the various projects at the shop, including the donated Yellow Jacket, which is getting a bottom job at the moment. If the Robinsons hadn't been dressed so nicely, we would have put them to work!

(Above) David Kanally has been repairing and grinding away at the Mastercraft trailer that came with the Yellow Jacket donated by Danny Beaver. With a little more wire brush action on some hard-to-reach spots, the trailer will be ready for primer and black paint next. Repairs included re-attaching the left trailer fender. One other Mastercraft owner has seen our Facebook post on this one.

Next Meeting November 20th, Featuring Pier 121 Event, Don't Miss It!

boatOur next meeting will be Thursday, November 20th, at 7 p.m. at Two Guys From Italy in Dallas. Come at 5:30 and join us for the pre-meeting dinner. You'll receive an email reminder for the meeting a few days prior. We'll be continuing our door prize tradition, giving out an e-book, or print book of the lucky winner's choice, or a complimentary design of a boat show placard. Our presentation this month will feature a video of the Cruisin' Lake Lewisville event slated for November 15. A backup presentation has been prepared in case weather interferes with the Pier 121 event.

If you can't join in person, you'll be using the Zoom application for your cell phone or your home computer. To make things easier at meeting time, it would be a good idea for you to go to your normal smart phone app store to download Zoom Cloud Meetings, or go to Zoom.us on your home computer and sign up. Prior to the meeting, you will be sent an email with a link to join the meeting, and further instructions. Those who wait to download Zoom will also receive a link to do that just before the meeting starts. If you are among those who need a few attempts to be successful with technology, you may want to get the downloading taken care of ahead of time.

Our meetings are a great opportunity to socialize with fellow WBA members and to talk shop on questions about everything from paint and varnish to carburetor kits. Please join us on Zoom to be a part of our monthly fellowship!

Shop Talk and Musings: Christmas Party Dec. 3rd!

Following a polling of the membership regarding the Christmas Party, we've decided to move ahead with plans for Wednesday evening, December 3rd at Maggiano's at North Park. Feedback from the poll showed that most people are available on that date, and those who couldn't attend wouldn't make it due to distance or other commitments anyway. We'll be sending eVite invitations to all dues-paying members in the coming days. Please be on the lookout for your eVite and be sure to RSVP. We're looking forward to a warm evening of fellowship on December 3. Not current on your membership? Or wanting to renew for 2026? You can take care of that right now!

And finally, please take a look in the shed or garage for leftover parts or other salable items you would like to donate to the Club. Contact David Kanally at david@historywithheart.com for more info.
