Displays, Fun Run Highlight Fall Festival at Pier 121

The Fall Festival of Yachting sponsored by MarineMax was held on Saturday and Sunday, October 1-2, at Pier 121 on Lake Lewisville. The WBA made a solid showing.

Land and in-the-water displays featured a diverse group of classic boats. Group meals and a Sunday run topped off the event. Watch the video here!

Austin Hill Country Show a Huge Hit!

Scott and Pam Reichardt and Jim and Cindy Frechette outdid themselves this year, hosting a wonderful Austin Hill Country Boat Show, held on October 7-9, which brought beautiful antique and classic boats from across the State and beyond. See the slideshow here!

Scott's Dodge Water Car made its long-awaited debut at this show (Craig Stanfield eye-popping photo). About 30 boats were on display at the beautiful Horseshoe Bay Marina. A Friday dinner cruise and a Saturday party complemented the show. Watch the video here!

October Meeting Gets to the Bottom of Things, Elects 2017 Officers!

The October 20th meeting of the WBA featured a presentation of techniques in the use of 3M 5200 adhesive compound in the replanking of a classic wooden boat bottom. The "5200 method", which allows the original appearance of individual planks, is an alternative to the "West System method", which covers the bottom with a fiberglass sheet.

The 2017 slate of officers was presented by the Nominating Committee and elected unanimously. Congratulations to President David Sheets, Vice-President Bill Mott, Secretary Gay Perry and Treasurer Scott Reichardt. Our officers give generously of their time to make sure the Club runs smoothly. Thanks to all!

Project Work Moves Forward in Lucas, Plano and Richardson!

(Above) The McGeorge/Marshall/Wolfe 350 Chris Craft V-8 is nearing completion, following some new gaskets and reassembly work this past week. The motor will go up for sale soon, with proceeds benefitting the Club.

(Below) Lew White and Bob Adair have fitted thwarts and seats in their sailing dinghy, and are moving on to the building of the centerboard trunk. What a sweet little boat!

(Above) Dennis Cheatham reports from Facebook that he's really liking the look of his '58 Yellow Jacket hull after sealing. Just think how great she'll look with several coats of varnish!

(Below) Grant Sedberry has been doing some major fiberglass and gel coat work to bring his 1973 Nordic long deck back to life. Power will be a BBC 454, 500-600 hp.

Next WBA Monthly Meeting November 17th, 2016. Guest Night!

boatOur next meeting will be Thursday, November 17th, 2016 at 7 p.m. at Two Guys from Italy at 11637 Webb Chapel Road, just south of Forest Road. We'll be continuing our door prize tradition, giving out a classic boating book from collections donated by Pat Baldwin and Bill McNally to a lucky winner.

Our meetings are a great opportunity to socialize with fellow WBA members and to talk shop on questions on everything from paint and varnish to carburetor kits. November is our traditional guest night. Bring a guest, and the Club will pay $15 toward your guest's dinner! Your guest could be a person who's thinking about getting into the hobby. Your guest could be your spouse or your boo. Up to you! Please make a special effort to be there. As always, we'll have generous helpings of fellowship and Italian food.

Join us for a light meal and moderate libation at 5:30 p.m. at Two Guys from Italy prior to the meeting. We encourage you to join us for dinner, so we'll always have the required minimum number of diners to avoid a room charge.

Shop Talk and Musings

It's that time of year when we think about winterizing our boats and saving dates for special holiday gatherings. Please mark your calendar for this year's Christmas Party on December 3. Invitations to follow!

And finally, please take a look in the shed or garage for leftover parts or other salable items you can donate to the club. Bring them to any WBA meeting, or contact David Kanally at david@historywithheart.com for pickup.
