WBA Invades Michigan!

As soon as he learned about the Century 100th birthday celebration, September 11-13 in Manistee, MI, "Mr. Century", Phil Wolff, began rallying the Century owners of the WBA to attend the show. In all, five WBA Centurys made the 1200+ mile trip to Manistee to attend.  Phil (above) brought home the "Twilight in Manistee" award for his Manistee-built '68 Resorter. Jim Wolfe (below) won the "Century of the Century" award for his '59 Coronado, "Selah".

The show really brought to light the number and qualtiy of Century boats in the WBA, and the willingness of our Century owners to invest their time, energy and  money in their representation of the Century Marque and the WBA, in a record WBA turnout for a show so far from home.

Just a week later, September 18-19, the ACBS held its annual International Show in nearby Port Huron, MI.  Again, the WBA was well represented! Special thanks to Phil and Richard Wolff, Jim Donovan, Robert Aldrich, and Chris Sterlacci who attended the Century 100th show, and to Lindy and Lisa Robinson and Robin Godfrey who attended the ACBS show, and especially to Craig Godfrey, Phil and Karen Brosseau, Jim and Rhonda Wolfe, Mark and Chris McKeehan, Kit Jacobson and Mary Grey, and Gabe and Kim Chacin, who attended both! Above, (l-r) Mark McKeehan, Craig Godfrey, Jim Wolfe, Rhonda Wolfe, Phil Brosseau and Chris McKeehan celebrate the Platinum awards won by the Century Partners' '65 Sabre and by Jim and Rhonda for their '59 Coronado.  Below, Jim and Rhonda also won the "Best Owner Restored Boat" Award.  Congratulations!

LBJ Show Next Weekend, Oct. 8-10!

Lisa and Lindy Robinson are well on their way to finalizing the details of the 2026 Lake LBJ show and rendezvous, taking place at Horseshoe Bay Marina, October 8-10.

A goodly number of WBA members have already indicated their intent to attend. Why not join them, and have a great time with friends. Let Lisa know if you can come.

Lake Cypress Springs Rendezvous a Sunny Success!

Jeff Dils hosted an enthusiastic and appreciative group of WBA members at the Lake Cypress Springs Rendezvous on Saturday, September 26, 2026.

Despite low lake levels, the ramps were open, and using his local knowledge, Jeff found the best of the bunch for the Skippers to use for launching. Numerous photos and videos were taken and posted to the WBA Facebook Group.  Participants enjoyed a group lunch and a warm, sunny day for their outing.

Special thanks to Jeff Dils for hosting the group, which included Phil Brosseau, Craig Godfrey, Phil and Mary Wolff, John Ables, Alan Oppenheimer, Bill Mott and Tom and son Paul Austin. (Left: John Ables and Tom and Paul Austin plying the waters of Lake Cypress Springs).

Mott Presents History of White Rock Lake at September WBA Meeting

At the September 17th meeting of the WBA, Moderator David Kanally reviewed the standing agenda items, including upcoming events and activities of the club. The meeting also included Treaurer and Secretary reports, delivered via Zoom, and project updates.

For the presentation,  Bill Mott gave a well-researched talk on the history of White Rock Lake.  Bill used information and vintage photos from the Dallas Library and from his personal collection. The story was made more personal through Bill's family's own experiences and life on and around the lake.  Great job, Bill!

The group also viewed a video from the Manistee show during dinner.  View it here!

Updates from the Robin McGeorge Boat Shop and Beyond!

Chris McKeehan did some final touchups on the floor of the '55 Yellow Jacket Capri, and helped tighten some hard-to-reach fasteners under the dash to hold the windshield.

The Yellow Jacket is sitting pretty, and is ready for her first show!

David Kanally, Jim Donovan and Carl Lapiska pause for a moment of fellowship during a recent work session at the Robin McGeorge Boat Shop.

The '55 Yellow Jacket Capri is now complete and ready for its journey home.  The final step was locating the windshield (thank you Dan Stober) and installing it.

The original '55 Mercury Mark 55e is the perfect power plant for this Yellow Jacket

Jeff Hill continues the important work of sealing the seams in the bottom of his lapstrake Disappearing Propeller Boat before paint and varnish are applied.

Next Monthly Meeting October 15, 2026

boatOur next meeting will be Thursday, October 15th, 2026, at 7 p.m. at Two Guys From Italy in Dallas. Come at 5:30 and join us for the pre-meeting dinner. You'll receive an email reminder for the meeting a few days prior. We'll be continuing our door prize tradition, giving out an e-book, or print book of the lucky winner's choice, or a complimentary design of a boat show placard. This month's presentation will include reports and video from the Manistee and Port Huron shows.

If you can't join in person, you'll be using the Zoom application for your cell phone or your home computer. To make things easier at meeting time, it would be a good idea for you to go to your normal smart phone app store to download Zoom Cloud Meetings, or go to Zoom.us on your home computer and sign up. Prior to the meeting, you will be sent an email with a link to join the meeting, and further instructions. Those who wait to download Zoom will also receive a link to do that just before the meeting starts. If you are among those who need a few attempts to be successful with technology, you may want to get the downloading taken care of ahead of time.

Our meetings are a great opportunity to socialize with fellow WBA members and to talk shop on questions on everything from paint and varnish to carburetor kits. Please join us on Zoom to be a part of our monthly fellowship!

Shop Talk and Musings: The Fruits of Our Labor

The month of September, 2026, at least among members of the WBA, will be remembered as a time of work and reward.  Our hobby, when practiced earnestly, involves a lot of work; in woodworking, scraping, sanding, varnishing, sourcing parts, learning mechanics, wiring and even driving hundreds or even thousands of miles. But that work reaps rewards.  Seeing the shining deck of a freshly finished Yellow Jacket, participating in a large gathering of like-minded classic boat enthusiasts, or receiving recognition from skilled and devoted peers for some of the best restorations in the country...these are the fruits of our labor.  But if you ask any of those for whom September has been an exceptional month of rewards, you'll find that the greatest reward of all comes in the form of friendship, fellowship and shared experiences.  This is the WBA.

And finally, please take a look in the shed or garage for leftover parts or other salable items you would like to donate to the Club. Contact David Kanally at david@historywithheart.com for more info.
