Kimball, McCune Share K&W Images, Experiences at May Meeting
Bill Kimball stepped up and gave a good recap of the Keels & Wheels show at the May 18th meeting of the WBA. Using a large collection of photos taken by fellow member Steve McCune, Bill brought the experience to life with commentary on both the boat and car exhibits.
Steve and others who attended were able to offer some first-hand observations as well, making for a complete presentation of the event.
Many thanks to Bill for coming up with yet another great WBA presentation. If you've got a classic boating topic of particular interest to you, why not consider giving a presentation at an upcoming meeting? Contact Bill Mott if you'd like to present. |

Project Update from Lucas and Beyond!
(Above), Robin McGeorge applies a coat of varnish to the sanded deck of the Yellow Jacket that he and David Kanally acquired from WBA member Lynn Baird in Idaho.

(Above): Dennis Cheatham's Yellow Jacket is starting to make the show circuit, with its clear finish throughout. Dennis didn't want to hide any of that beautiful mahogany!
Lew White and Bob Adair have inverted their sailing dinghy to apply this white primer coat, in preparation for the glossy white top coat. The top strake will be deep blue.

(Above): Robin and David's Yellow Jacket gleams with four coats of new varnish on top of the ten or so that were already there. Buffing next!

(Above): Walter Hill stopped by the shop last Monday just to see how Robin and David are handling the cosmetic restoration of the Merc 40-horse outboard for their YJ.
Chuck Barber has been using a new Total Boat finish that allows him to apply several coats a day to his Borum outboard. He's got a pretty good buildup already!

Next WBA Monthly Meeting June 15th, 2017. Don't Miss It!
Our next meeting will be Thursday, June 15th, 2017 at 7 p.m. at Two Guys from Italy at 11637 Webb Chapel Road, just south of Forest Lane. We'll be continuing our door prize tradition, giving out a classic boating book from collections donated by Pat Baldwin and Bill McNally to a lucky winner.
Our meetings are a great opportunity to socialize with fellow WBA members and to talk shop on questions on everything from paint and varnish to carburetor kits. We'll feature a presentation of special interest to antique and classic boaters, of course. As always, we'll have generous helpings of fellowship and Italian food.
Join us for a light meal and moderate libation at 5:30 p.m. at Two Guys from Italy prior to the meeting. We encourage you to join us for dinner, so we'll always have the required minimum number of diners to avoid a room charge.
Shop Talk and Musings
What a joy it was to have Marc Hill's 1968 Chris-Craft Grand Prix at the Wood, Waves and Wheels show at Eagle Mountain on May 13. Mark was part of a sizeable delegation from the WBA, providing six boats to this classic boat, car and motorcycle show.
Mark has been working on his Grand Prix for a number of years, doing a painstaking restoration from "grey boat" state to state of the art. See a video of that restoration here! We haven't seen many of these later model Chris-Crafts, complete with their rakish lines and wonderful deck configurations, so this was a real treat.
Thanks too, to all the other members who helped make Wood, Waves and Wheels a success. Our comrades at the Eagle Mountain Classic Boat Club and the Fort Worth Boat Club do a great job every year!
And finally, please take a look in the shed or garage for leftover parts or other salable items you can donate to the Club. Bring them to any WBA meeting, or contact David Kanally at david@historywithheart.com for pickup. |
