Keels & Wheels Just Around the Corner!

Happy 20th, Keels & Wheels! In a brief span of twenty years, Keels & Wheels has become one of the premier car and boat shows in the nation. This year, Co-Chairs Bob Fuller and Paul Merryman are pulling out all the stops to celebrate the 20th anniversary. The WBA is honored to have been a part of this event for many years.

The WBA participates not only in showing member boats, but also by providing volunteer crew members for the launch team. If you're interested in helping out this year, please speak with Robin McGeorge or other regular attendees for details! Let's show our SWACBS friends our loyalty, and make a good showing!

February Meeting Yields Busy Year of Plans!

The February 19th meeting of the WBA was devoted to the subject of planning the Club's activities for the year. With the help of nearly 30 members present (thanks, all!), and an agenda prepared by Steve Griffitts and Jim Wolfe, a schedule for a busy 2015 was laid out.

Local, state and regional events are included on the Calendar of Events, as well as monthly meeting dates and placeholders for a couple events to be confirmed. The WBA hopes to bring back a number of informal rendez-vous this season, beginning with one on April 11.

Maybe We Should Send the Lucas Crew to Washington to Restore It!

(Above) Mark Webster's '59 Chris-Craft Continental has had a nice cover on it to keep the boat clean while Mark was away getting his daughter Madi married. Now that he can think about boats again, work should be underway soon!

(Below) Robin McGeorge has done a typically masterful job of refreshing the 4-cyl, 60-hp out of his 15-foot Chris-Craft Cavalier. These photos are just over a week old now, and at the time they were taken, Robin hadn't run the engine yet. But we bet it's running fine by now!

(Above) Looks like Walter Hill did what most of us have done at one time or another...he started digging at a couple soft spots in the window framing of his Owens outboard cruiser and kept on going and going. He'll now fair in some new mahogany framing, and, in Walter's words, "finish up."

(Below) Dennis Cheatham and Ken Mattice have a look at Robin's Cavalier before Robin gets to the shop. The boat is looking good, but will need a McGeorge Special refresh.

Next WBA Monthly Meeting March 19th. Don't Miss It!

boatOur next meeting will be Thursday, March 19th, 2015 at 7 p.m. at Two Guys from Italy at 11637 Webb Chapel Road, just south of Forest Road. WBA Treasurer and benefactor John Parish will be giving away one of his many boating and woodworking related books as a door prize.

A representative of Copy Cat Trailers will be on hand with a program about the design and construction of boat trailers. It's an important topic for all of us, and we're sure you'll enjoy this informative program. As always, we'll have generous helpings of fellowship and Italian food.

Join us for a light meal and moderate libation at 5:30 p.m. at Two Guys from Italy prior to the meeting. We encourage you to join us for dinner, so we'll always have the required minimum number of diners to avoid a room charge.

Shop Talk and Musings

Man, the turnout at the February meeting was fantastic, and we're grateful to all who made the trip to Two Guys from Italy to provide their input to the annual planning process. There was a good deal of positive energy around the idea of informal "rendez-vous" outings, which were a hallmark of the Club's earlier years. These outings are light on cost and structure, but heavy on fun. To launch the concept, we've set aside April 11 for the first event. Anybody who wants to go out for a run with their boat would gather at the appointed launch ramp and have a fun day on the lake. That's it! No spit and polish, no long hours dockside in a show, just a good time on the water. Be looking for a notification via email or the Bilge Pump for the April 11 Rendez-vous location! Meanwhile, save the date!

Congratulations are in order for WBA past president Mark and former first lady Elizabeth Webster on the marriage of their daughter and WBA sweetheart Madi Webster to a very fine fellow named Dave Ricci. Best wishes to the happy couple!

And finally, please take a look in the shed or garage for leftover parts or other salable items you can donate to the club. Bring them to any WBA meeting, or contact David Kanally at david@historywithheart.com for pickup.
